According to The Athletic, Bayern Munich is unwilling to continue paying the salary for midfielder Joshua Kimmich’s remaining year on his contract, a development that has immediately caught the attention of Premier League giants Manchester City.
Kimmich’s current contract with Bayern is set to expire in the summer of 2025. The German international hopes to remain at Bayern, but according to inside information from the club, following the recent signing of Portuguese midfielder Palhinha, the club is not willing to continue paying Kimmich’s high salary. This suggests that the transfer of the 29-year-old German international this summer is a possibility.
Kimmich’s current annual fixed income is €15 million, with an additional €5 million in bonuses. If he plays 42 games each season, he receives an extra portion of the bonus (last season he played 42 games). Clearly, Bayern is unwilling to continue paying such a high salary and bonus.
The report from The Athletic also states that Manchester City is looking for a midfielder to “partner or serve as a backup to Rodri.” Previously, Manchester City had been focusing on Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães, who plays for Newcastle United, but was unwilling to pay the £100 million buyout clause in his contract. Now, with Kimmich potentially entering the transfer market, Manchester City has another option. Kimmich would be a valuable addition to Manchester City’s squad, and his previous experience working under Pep Guardiola gives him an advantage in fitting into the team.
