Ipswich Employee Banned for Three Months Due to Illegal Sports Investments, Sustained Losses in Pounds

On July 17, official news announced that an Ipswich Town Football Club employee was banned from football activities for three months due to alleged illegal sports investments.

In an official statement, Ipswich Town FC confirmed that the club’s kit manager, James Plunkett, was suspended for three months and fined £750 for illegal sports betting. The club has since terminated his contract.

Reports indicate that between March 30, 2018, and March 13, 2024, Plunkett engaged in illegal sports betting on 867 occasions, of which 126 were related to Ipswich matches. However, he never bet against his own team. In total, Plunkett wagered £1,400.79, sustaining losses amounting to £608.12.

Plunkett has acknowledged his wrongdoing and is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

Last season, Ipswich finished second in the Championship, securing their return to the Premier League after a 22-year absence.
