Milano Sport: Bologna Halts Calafiori Transfer Due to Basel's Demanded 50% Sell-On Fee

Previously, multiple media outlets reported that Bologna defender Calafiori was on the verge of a transfer to Premier League giants Arsenal. The Gunners had tabled a €45 million offer and reached an agreement with the player regarding contract terms. However, today, Milano Sport published an article stating that Calafiori’s transfer has hit a snag.

The reason behind this halt is the intervention of his former club, Swiss Super League side FC Basel, which has put a stop to the transfer. Last summer, Basel sold Calafiori to Bologna for €4 million, while retaining a 50% sell-on fee for any future sale. This means that should Calafiori successfully move to Arsenal, Basel would be entitled to almost €20 million.

However, Bologna believes they initially misjudged Calafiori’s value and is unwilling to accept such a high percentage of the sell-on fee. They are seeking negotiations with Basel to reduce this percentage. Due to the ongoing disagreement between Bologna and Basel, Calafiori cannot finalize his transfer as of yet, and he has returned to training with Bologna.
