Canada’s Men’s Basketball Team Announces Olympic Roster: Led by Alexander and Murray, Wiggins Misses Out

On July 11, Canada’s men’s basketball team officially announced its roster of 12 players for the Paris Olympics, which includes 10 current NBA players, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. After many years, Canada’s men’s basketball team has returned to the Olympics, where they will face a super-tough group consisting of Australia, Spain, and Greece. Previously, the Canadian team had released a list of 20 players for training camp, which was trimmed down to finalize the roster of 12 players. This team is led by Oklahoma City Thunder’s star player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets’ star Jamal Murray. Notable omissions include No. 1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins and this year’s rookie Zach Edey. Among the 12-man roster, apart from Khem Birch (who previously played for the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors) and Melvin Ejim (undrafted in 2014), the remaining 10 are all current NBA players, making for a luxurious lineup. At 10:30 AM today, the Canadian men’s basketball team will play a warm-up match against the U.S. men’s basketball team. The 12-player Olympic roster for Canada’s men’s basketball team is as follows: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), Alexander-Walker (Minnesota Timberwolves), RJ Barrett (Toronto Raptors), Khem Birch (previously with Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors), Dillon Brooks (Houston Rockets), Luguentz Dort (Oklahoma City Thunder), Melvin Ejim (undrafted in 2014), Trey Lyles (Sacramento Kings), Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets), Andrew Nembhard (Indiana Pacers), Kelly Olynyk (Toronto Raptors), Dwight Powell (Dallas Mavericks).
