Official: Southgate Resigns as England Manager

On July 16, the English Football Association officially announced that Gareth Southgate had resigned as manager of the England national team.

The announcement reads as follows:

After managing 102 matches and nearly eight years in charge, Gareth Southgate has announced he will resign as head coach of the Three Lions.

Since becoming England manager in 2016, Southgate led the team through the 2018 World Cup, the 2020 European Championship, the 2022 World Cup, and the 2024 European Championship. During this time, he guided the team to two runner-up finishes in the European Championship, one semi-final and one quarter-final in the World Cup. In the recently concluded European Championship in Germany, England lost 1-2 to Spain in the final, missing out on the championship.
