Sport: After Euro Final, Barça Will Launch Full-Scale Bid for Nico; Five-Year Contract With Gradual Salary Increase Await

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, FC Barcelona will launch a full-scale offensive to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams following the Euro final between Spain and England. The aim is to secure his signature.

Barcelona President Joan Laporta previously admitted in an interview with Catalunya Radio that he is very fond of Nico and that Barça has the funds to sign him. Following the approval of new coach Julian Nagelsmann, the club’s sports department and financial division have been working together to study the feasibility of this transfer. Nico’s release clause stands at €58 million, and as reported by Sport earlier, if Barça can return to a 1:1 income-to-expenses ratio, this price would be entirely manageable, and it’s just a matter of time. More importantly, Nico himself is very keen on joining Barça.

If Barça can ultimately complete the transfer successfully, they will offer Nico a five-year contract. The contract will feature lower salaries in the first two years, with salaries increasing year-on-year over the subsequent three years. This model has already been applied in previous signings, such as Robert Lewandowski.
