Arnold: I've Never Seen Maradona Play, So Messi Is the Greatest of All Time in My Mind

Recently, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold discussed the topic of the greatest football player of all time.

Alexander-Arnold told The Mirror, “Messi is the best player in this sport. I didn’t see Maradona play, but to imagine someone better than the players I have seen is hard for my brain to grasp. No one else could do what he did better.”

“When you played against him, the feeling was different than any other player. When the ball was near him, you were always on high alert. I think few players can make other players feel that way, so for that reason, I have to say he’s the greatest of all time. For me, in many aspects of the game, he was probably the best at any given time; he could almost do anything he wanted on the pitch, which makes him the best.”

In the past three years, Messi has widened the gap with his closest rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) debate, as he won two Copa América titles and, most importantly, the World Cup during this period.
