Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2019 for €48 million, and his previous contract was due to expire next June. Now, he will extend his stay at Real Madrid by two more years, with an option to extend for an additional season based on the number of games he plays. Mendy was part of the French squad for this year’s European Championship but did not get any playing time. He is currently on vacation and will sign the new contract upon his return to Real Madrid.
It is understood that during many contacts between Real Madrid and Mendy’s agent, the focus of discussions was his match appearances since joining the club. In the past season, Mendy’s performance changed, showing greater consistency and participating in more key matches throughout the season, largely putting behind him the injury troubles that had plagued him in previous seasons.
In the last league campaign, Mendy made 23 appearances, missing the start of the season due to injury. However, he performed best in the Champions League, only missing two out of 13 matches. These figures are similar to the 2020/21 season when he played 26 domestic league games and the same number of Champions League matches. Last season, his 37 appearances across all competitions marked the highest total since his arrival at the Bernabeu.
According to Marca, 29-year-old French left-back Ferland Mendy has reached a basic agreement for renewal with Real Madrid. The new contract will expire in June 2027, and the player’s salary is linked to his appearances..
