Spanish Media: Morocco Plans to Build the Best Stadium in History, Eager to Outshine Bernabéu for the World Cup Final

In the Olympic men’s football tournament, Morocco is about to face Spain. Off the pitch, the two countries’ football will also compete on another battlefield. Spanish media outlet Relevo reports that Morocco plans to build “the largest and best stadium in history” with the aim of outshining the Santiago Bernabéu and Camp Nou stadiums to host the 2030 World Cup final.

According to previous reports from Spanish media, FIFA may consider the Santiago Bernabéu, Camp Nou, and the Casablanca stadium in Morocco as candidates for hosting the 2030 World Cup final. The media points out that according to tradition, the venue for the 2026 North American World Cup final was announced three years in advance; thus, it will take a few more years to decide on the venue for the 2030 World Cup final. Morocco’s ambitious plan has raised concerns among Spanish media.

The Moroccan royal family makes no secret of their ambition: to host the World Cup final. They plan to construct the best and largest stadium in the world: this stadium, located in Casablanca, will have a capacity of 115,000 spectators, feature a VIP area spanning 6,091 square meters, provide 800 mixed interview zones for journalists from around the world, offer 600 wheelchair-accessible seats, and have over 90,600 square meters of reception space. The conceptual renderings have already been released, sparking much discussion and admiration.

Spanish media comments highlight that it is currently a period of turmoil for Spanish football management, with the national football association having been without a leader for several months. Meanwhile, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has maintained strong ties with the Confederation of African Football, visiting Morocco multiple times in recent years. These signs indicate that Morocco could be a formidable competitor for Spain in hosting the World Cup final, and if their plans progress at a normal pace, the new Moroccan stadium “will have at least an equal chance” to the Santiago Bernabéu.
