UK Media: Hundreds of Thousands of Tickets for the Paris Olympics Remain Unsold, Majority for Football Matches

With just under a week to go until the opening of the Paris Olympics, an unexpected situation has arisen at what is one of the most anticipated events in the sporting world. According to The Times, there are still hundreds of thousands of tickets unsold for the games, including even tickets for the 100-meter final and the opening ceremony.

The organizers have revealed that there are still 500,000 to 600,000 tickets available for purchase, and it’s worth noting that tickets for the 100-meter final would typically be sold out long before the event. Interestingly, the majority of the unsold tickets for this Olympics are for football matches, similar to previous games.

However, it is surprising that there are still many seats available for top-tier events. That being said, most sports, including cycling, swimming, rowing, rugby sevens, gymnastics, and other athletics finals, have sold out all their tickets.

Compared to the 2012 London Olympics, tickets for this year’s games are cheaper. During the London Olympics, tickets for the majority of events, especially the finals of athletics, were difficult to obtain and often required a lottery system for allocation.

However, the organizing committee does not accept the notion that interest in the Olympics has declined. Even with the current situation, 8.8 million tickets have been sold, which is a record-breaking number for the Olympics. At the end of the London Olympics, 250,000 tickets remained unsold, while at the conclusion of the Rio Olympics, 1 million tickets were still available.
