UK Media: If Potter Becomes England Manager, Chelsea Will Receive a Million-Pound Windfall

Following England’s failure to secure the European Championship title once again, the team’s manager, Gareth Southgate, has announced his resignation. Several high-profile managers have emerged as potential successors for the Three Lions, including former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

According to today’s report in the Daily Mail, if Potter takes over from Southgate as the manager of the England national team, his former employer, Chelsea, will receive an unexpected windfall of one million pounds. Potter left Chelsea last April, less than seven months after taking charge. Following his dismissal, Chelsea was required to continue paying him a weekly salary of 200,000 pounds until October.

However, if Potter accepts an offer from another club, this additional salary would be deducted. Southgate earned a weekly salary of 100,000 pounds as England’s manager. Should Potter take on the role at the same pay level, Chelsea would not need to pay the final one million pounds of his salary.

Potter, Eddie Howe, and England U21 manager Lee Carsley are currently among the leading contenders for the position of England national team manager.
