July 22. Recently, Bayern Munich’s president, Uli Hoeness, responded to rumors of a possible departure of central defender Matthijs de Ligt in an interview with German media outlet Abendzeitung. The German acknowledged, “There are some defensive players who might leave. De Ligt is Dutch, and so is Manchester United’s manager.”
However, he also made his stance clear, “If he chooses to stay, I have no doubts whatsoever.” Hoeness also emphasized the untouchable status of Dayot Upamecano, stating, “Personally, I would not sell him.”
Nevertheless, according to media reports, over 60,000 Bayern fans have petitioned the club not to sell De Ligt since the transfer rumors began.
This Dutch central defender joined Bayern Munich for a fee of 67 million euros in 2022 and still has three years left on his contract with the team.
