On July 21, in a recent interview with the British media outlet, The Mirror, Arnold discussed who could replace Southgate as the manager of the England national team. He expressed his hope that his mentor, Klopp, would take on the role.
Arnold said, “I enjoy every moment working with Klopp. We’ve shared great memories, built a great relationship, and formed a strong bond. So if this were to happen, we would certainly continue working together after leaving Liverpool.”
However, he admitted, “I would be surprised if he actually took the job as England’s manager.”
When talking about Southgate, Arnold said, “I do think Gareth is underrated. I believe being the manager of the England national team is one of the toughest jobs out there. You’re always being judged, there’s always speculation, and people always have their opinions.”
“But the way he leads the team and the environment he creates for the players is something everyone can see. The team is united, everyone is on the same page, but every coach will face criticism.”
