Recently, Arsenal has been working hard to complete the transfer signing of Kalafiori but has yet to make any progress. According to The Mirror today, the main reason is due to Roma’s interference.
The report indicates that Arsenal has already reached a transfer agreement with Bologna. However, Roma has initiated legal proceedings over the transfer fee distribution, which has further delayed Kalafiori’s transfer. According to the player’s previous transfer agreement, his former club Basel is entitled to 50% of the profit from the defender’s sale. Bologna has been in discussions with Basel regarding this portion of the transfer fee, which is one of the reasons why Kalafiori’s transfer has not been completed.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, another reason is that when Kalafiori transferred from Roma to Basel, there was a 50% resale clause in their contract. When Basel sold Kalafiori to Bologna, Roma received £1.2 million. However, Roma believes this amount is too low, given the significant increase in Kalafiori’s value. Roma feels that if the player completes his transfer to Arsenal, they should receive at least £6.7 million. Basel, however, maintains that the resale clause was satisfied during the initial transfer.
Both Roma and Basel have hired lawyers, and the matter will be taken to court, with Arsenal being the biggest victim in this situation. It is worth noting that Kalafiori came up through the ranks at Roma but only made 18 appearances for the team.
