Stay or Go? Félix Scores in Pre-Season Amid Boos and Abuse from Atlético Fans

On the morning of August 4, in a pre-season friendly match against Getafe, João Félix shone as Atlético Madrid secured a 3-1 victory. According to Spain’s Marca, Félix was one of Atlético’s standout players but also the only one booed during the game.

From the warm-up stage, Félix heard boos from the stands. During the match, a small group of fans continued to abuse him, calling him “the bastard from Portugal.” However, the 24-year-old Portuguese forward was not deterred. Instead, he scored a goal near the end of the second half, demonstrating his skill and value.

Félix’s relationship with Atlético had become strained over the past season. He publicly criticized the club and its coach Diego Simeone, which sparked strong discontent among Atlético fans. Upon returning to the club after Euro 2024, Félix was forced to train alone for a period.

Despite his inconsistent form, Félix has attracted interest from some top clubs. However, Atlético’s asking price of €60 million for a transfer has deterred many potential buyers. Félix’s contract with Atlético runs until June 2029, but the relationship between both parties has deteriorated, and Atlético fans are unwilling to see him wear the red-and-white jersey in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Although his performances during the 2023/24 season and at Euro 2024, both for Barcelona and the Portuguese national team, did not meet expectations, Félix remains a highly talented young player. His future movements will continue to capture the attention of the football world.
