Wang Siyu: Backed into a Corner, There’s No Way Out for China’s Women’s Basketball Team

On July 31, in the second round of the Paris Olympic women’s basketball group stage, after a regrettable loss to Spain in the first round, the Chinese women’s basketball team faced an unfavorable situation as they met with the Serbian women’s basketball team.

During preparations for the match against the Serbian women’s basketball team, Wang Siyu, the starting guard for the Chinese women’s basketball team, gave an interview. Wang Siyu stated that the Chinese women’s basketball team must face their challenges head-on and find a way forward.

Facing the current tense situation regarding qualification, Wang Siyu said, “After losing to Spain, the entire team conducted a post-game summary and gained some experience. We hope to handle similar situations better next time. However, what’s past is past. Our current goal is to win against Serbia.”

When discussing the summer preparations and the Olympic games, Wang Siyu said, “Throughout this summer, our performance has been improving, especially compared to the game against Spain. Although the result was indeed disappointing, we are now at a point where I think the phrase ‘backed into a corner’ fits well. Indeed, there is no more room for retreat in the group stage.”
