Fofana: Enzo explained to us that he didn’t mean to offend French fans or anyone – I believe him

After being caught up in a controversy over a racist chant, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández has returned to the team. According to Goal, Chelsea player and fellow Frenchman Wesley Fofana defended his teammate, stating that he is not a racist.

Fofana said, “I’m happy to see Enzo back, we talked together. I explained why I didn’t like the video. He apologized, saying he didn’t want to hurt French fans or anyone. He didn’t understand what he was singing. I believe him because I know him. I know Enzo. He’s not a racist. It’s just that the video was bad. Not just Enzo. It was the Argentine team.”

Furthermore, Fofana added, “But now we’ve communicated well, it’s good. I’m satisfied with this situation because he understands me, I understand him, he said sorry, and I trust him, which is the most important thing. Enzo is an important player for Argentina. I hope this serves as a lesson for him, because it’s certainly a different culture.”

Fofana insisted that for the sake of the team, they need to move past their disagreement.

Fofana said, “If I’m on one side and Enzo is on the other, and we’re fighting every day, or we don’t talk, or we’re unhappy, then we won’t play well on the pitch. This isn’t just about me and Enzo. It’s about the whole team. That’s why we had a conversation. This is a good club.”
