August 7. In a recent interview, Onana stated that Manchester United fans should be mentally prepared as he will take on more risks and responsibilities in the upcoming season.
Sometimes Onana gets into trouble by attempting to build play from the back, but the goalkeeper reminded fans that at the start of the new season, he will take even more risks and told them to prepare for high-risk, high-reward football.
Onana said, “This is what you are going to see this season because I will take a lot of risks. The best teams in the world take risks when building play from the back. It’s about understanding the situation; when it’s one-on-one or when they press with three or four players, we dominate.”
“For me, it’s important to recognize these things and make the best decisions for the team. I will take a lot of responsibility, and I believe I have the strength to handle it all, don’t I? I think this season will be great.”
“You have to balance this, and sometimes criticism is good because you have to look back at what you did wrong, so for me, I take it positively.”
As part of the coaching staff changes this summer under Ten Hag, Manchester United hired goalkeeping coach Rubial. Rubial arrived at Manchester United from Ajax, replacing Richard Hartis, to help the team build play from the back, a key part of Ten Hag’s philosophy.
According to the schedule, Manchester United will face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10 at 11 PM.
