Former Chilean international Mauricio Pinilla, who won the Copa América in 2015 and 2016 with his national team, has been battling depression. In an interview, he expressed that he is gradually recovering.

Pinilla noted that he first experienced the pain and panic brought on by depression at the age of 20. He had to continually take medication to alleviate his suffering and often felt anxious. After retiring, Pinilla sought treatment for his depression at a psychiatric hospital in Santiago.

Pinilla said, “I am very happy that I have not had a drink for eight months. This decision was very important as it allowed me to develop better and healthier habits. I need to lead a healthier lifestyle and dedicate 100% of my energy to sports, my family, work, and my children.”

One crucial reason for Pinilla’s success is his mother, who is currently fighting cancer. Pinilla remarked, “I pay tribute to my mother, who is battling a very complex stage four cancer.”
