According to The Athletic, some Chelsea players have yet to forgive their teammate Enzo Fernández.
Enzo sparked significant controversy by singing a song containing discriminatory content. This incident upset several of his Chelsea teammates, who unfollowed him on social media.
Following this, Enzo issued an apology statement on social media and apologized to his teammates through the team’s internal chat group, acknowledging his inappropriate behavior.
However, according to The Athletic, the issue has not been fully resolved within the team. In particular, several African-origin players have not shown any signs of forgiving Enzo. It is reported that six French players – Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Badiahill, Nkunku, Disasi, and Ugochukwu – are unwilling to accept Enzo’s apology.
Additionally, Belgian player Romeo Lavia, who has African heritage, shares the same stance. Despite Enzo’s apology and ongoing internal investigations by Chelsea, there are no indications that these players have accepted the 23-year-old midfielder’s apology.
This is an issue Chelsea needs to address to ensure the team is well-prepared for the new season. If unity within the team is compromised, it could negatively impact the team’s performance.
As planned, Enzo is due to join up with the team in the United States soon. Previously, Chelsea captain Reece James stated that he would do his best to mediate and help resolve this off-field issue.
