On July 25, renowned basketball blogger Xu Jingyu shared some of his experiences in Paris, France, ahead of attending the Olympics in person. He expressed his dissatisfaction with being overcharged by local taxi drivers and noted that the veneer of European civility had been shattered.
Xu Jingyu posted on social media, “Firstly, taxis are very exploitative. I only took a taxi three times, and I was ripped off twice – that’s a rate of 66%. One time, from the Eiffel Tower to the Arc de Triomphe, it was less than 3 kilometers, but they didn’t use the meter and charged me a flat rate of 50 Euros? The second time was from the Arc de Triomphe to my hotel. I specifically asked for the meter to be used, but although the meter was running, for a distance of about 4 kilometers on the map, the final charge was 30 Euros. Damn, this place is full of tricks.”
“Also, as someone from the ’80s generation, I’ve always heard that Europeans are civilized, never crossing the street at a red light even if it means standing still, and everyone keeps clean and doesn’t litter. However, as you can see in the picture, pedestrians jaywalking at crosswalks is incredibly common here. So, as they say, reading ten thousand books is not as good as traveling ten thousand miles. You have to see things for yourself!”
