Fooled? Spanish Media: Brazilian Prodigy Rócke Without Shirt Number at Barcelona and Unlikely to Be Registered

The career of Brazilian prodigy Rócke has become shrouded in uncertainty just six months after joining Barcelona. According to Spanish media, Rócke is facing unprecedented anxiety and confusion as the club has reassigned his number 19 shirt, originally given to him, to Yamal, who shone brightly at Euro 2024. With the new season on the horizon, Rócke remains unsure where he will play, as he currently does not have a squad number and it appears that Barcelona will not register him.

In an attempt to make a good impression on new coach Flick, Rócke cut his summer vacation short and returned to training early, becoming one of the first players back. However, Flick has yet to clarify Rócke’s role within the team.

Barcelona’s management seems to be pushing for Rócke to leave during this summer’s transfer window. Club president Laporta and his team are in urgent need of funds to pursue new targets, such as Spanish stars Nico Williams and Dani Olmo, whose impressive performances at the Euros have garnered significant attention. Last summer, Barcelona paid over €60 million for the then 19-year-old Rócke, and even brought him to the club six months ahead of schedule in January.

Although Rócke made an impressive debut in La Liga, he failed to earn the trust of former coach Xavi. Despite the inconsistent form of other forwards in the team, Rócke spent most of his time on the bench.

The public criticism from Rócke’s wife and agent further exacerbated tensions, revealing their dissatisfaction and provoking a strong reaction from Barcelona’s hierarchy. To salvage his career, Rócke may have no choice but to depart from Camp Nou.

Spanish media point out that it is unlikely that Barcelona will register Rócke, as the team already has an abundance of forwards, including Yamal, Lewandowski, Ferran, Rafinha, and Fati, and is actively pursuing Nico Williams.

For the 19-year-old Rócke, the move to Barcelona was supposed to be a leap forward in his career, but it now seems like a challenging upstream battle.
