Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has again criticized Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes for lacking leadership qualities.
Souness said, “When you look at the leaders in modern football, Manchester United is an example. They are one of the biggest clubs in world football, and their captain is Bruno Fernandes. A few seasons ago, when they were 0-3 down against Liverpool, B. Fernandes just gave up. Now he’s the captain. No matter what happens on the pitch, he should be actively involved, passionately helping his teammates.”
“I don’t think B. Fernandes can change this aspect because it’s part of his character. He always shrugs his shoulders, waves his arms around, looks impatiently to the sky or sulks when the team is in trouble. I think the leaders in modern football often choose to hide themselves. They don’t want to expose themselves, they don’t want to take responsibility, and they don’t want to step up and own their mistakes. A recent example was during the Euros.”
Previously, Souness had stated that B. Fernandes was “going missing” in big games and, after a match last year, outright said he was “clearly not a leader.”
