Mbappe Press Conference: Wanted to Sign a Few Years Ago But It’s Part of a Footballer’s Life

On July 16th, Mbappe attended a press conference following his presentation ceremony at the Bernabeu.

When did you want to join the team?

He said, “The exact moment when I decided to join Real Madrid? Since I was a child, joining Real Madrid has been my dream.” Additionally, Mbappe noted, “I wanted to sign two or three years ago, but it’s part of a footballer’s life.”

About nose surgery

“I am in contact with the doctors, and they will tell me when I return from vacation. We will see what we do, but I’m sure I’ll be playing in the Supercup, although that depends on the coach. I will work hard to get ready.”

Choosing the number 9 jersey

“Who said I wanted the number 10? We already have the number 10, which is Modric. The number doesn’t matter to me; I don’t see anything on the back of my jersey, I can wear number 22, 29, or 48, but I don’t see anything. I only see the future, like a goal.”

The meaning of Hala Madrid

“My 1, 2, 3 Hala Madrid is a tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo, who was my childhood idol. He is now my friend, and he gave me advice. It’s an honor, and we stay in touch.”

Your first memory as a Real Madrid fan

“I have many, but I think it was Zidane, which is very important for a French person. Then I watched my idol Cristiano Ronaldo play, and as a kid with dreams, I’m happy to be here now. It’s an honor.”

Position on the field

“Wherever the coach wants me to play, I can play in any of the top three positions. What’s most important is being in the right physical and mental state. Where I play is a detail, not something to argue about. This morning, I met with the coach, but we didn’t discuss where I would play.”

Feeling about coming to the Bernabeu

“Being a Real Madrid player is an honor. It’s historic for me and my family, better than I ever imagined. This model (the Bernabeu stadium model) was a gift my family gave me when I was eight years old.”
