Recently, in his personal column on German Sky Sports, Lothar Matthäus expressed that Hoeness’s public statements often cause problems for Bayern Munich.
Matthäus wrote: “Hoeness may still be a ‘bigwig’ within Bayern Munich, but he is no longer a decision-maker. We cannot expect him to change, and he does have the right to speak, but in reality, his public statements often cause problems for Bayern.”
“Hoeness has dedicated nearly 50 years to Bayern, and it could be said that he built the Bayern we see today. He certainly has the right to speak, but why tell the outside world? It’s normal to say that Bayern must first sell surplus players to recoup funds before making further signings, but there was no need for Hoeness to tell the media this. Eberl and Freund are now the management figures at the club, responsible for making decisions.”
