On the night of July 29, Formula 1 team Williams Racing announced that Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has signed a contract structured as 2+1.
The driver lineup for Williams in the new season will be Sainz and Albon, with Sargeant likely to say goodbye to the paddock.
There were previous reports that Sainz had included special clauses in his contract, stipulating that if Mercedes or Red Bull teams extend an invitation, Williams must agree to terminate the contract unconditionally and immediately.
Sainz has made it to the podium five times this season for Ferrari, winning one Grand Prix. Currently, he has 162 points and is ranked fifth in the drivers’ championship standings.
