Under new coach Kompany, Bayern Munich’s preseason training is in full swing. As a veteran who participated in the European Championship, Thomas Mueller is enjoying the final days of his summer vacation. In an interview, Mueller stated that the entire team is highly motivated for the new season, determined to regain the prestige lost in the previous Bundesliga campaign.
Like other Bayern teammates who also played in the European Championship, Mueller will return to the team next Monday to officially start preparations for the new season. Sky Sports Germany spotted Mueller at a charity golf event and conducted a brief exclusive interview with him on the sidelines.
Despite appearing in good spirits during his vacation, as one of the team’s veterans, Mueller’s anticipation for the new season does not fall short of that of younger players. Mueller said, “I’ll be back in training next Monday, so I’m not really up to date on how Bayern’s preparations are going. For us players and the whole club, this new season will be very exciting, especially after such a disappointing season where we were not satisfied with the results. The start of each season is always a very dynamic moment, and everyone has to work hard to show what they can do and prove themselves.”
The German national team was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the European Championship hosted in their home country, and after the tournament, Mueller announced his retirement from international football. This means he will devote all his remaining career energy to Bayern Munich. With great anticipation, Mueller looks forward to the launch of the new era at Bayern, believing the team is capable of facing the upcoming challenges. Mueller said, “Last season was the first time since 2012 that we didn’t win any trophies, and now we have a new head coach and new players joining the squad. Everything is testing our ability to respond. Therefore, the coming weeks of preparation will be very interesting, and I believe this is part of the charm of football.”
The entire Bayern team will travel to South Korea on July 31st to begin their Asian tour ahead of the new season. Kompany’s debut in an official match with Bayern will be on August 16th against Ulm in the DFB-Pokal, and nine days later, the curtain will rise on the new Bundesliga season, with Bayern facing Wolfsburg in their opening league match.
