It is reported that CONMEBOL has sent an email notification to the Uruguayan Football Association, announcing that they will initiate a disciplinary inquiry into Bielsa’s inappropriate remarks at the pre-match press conference before the third-place playoff against Canada in the Copa America.

The 68-year-old Bielsa stated after his team secured third place, “I am not sorry for my words and I stand by them. I am unafraid of the consequences these comments may bring. Everything I said cannot be interpreted as untrue. I thought carefully about everything I said, and every word I spoke was true.”

According to multiple Uruguayan media outlets, CONMEBOL will conduct a detailed investigation into this matter, so any potential penalties for Bielsa and the Uruguayan Football Association may be announced in the coming days. During this period, they can also present their defense to CONMEBOL. The investigation could potentially impact Uruguay’s national team’s World Cup qualifiers in September before the final disciplinary measures are announced.
