Romano: Atlético de Madrid Close to Signing Gallagher for €35-40M, Accelerating Talks with Chelsea

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea are currently in direct negotiations over the deal for Conor Gallagher, with both parties getting closer to finalizing the transfer. This information has been corroborated by Spanish outlet Relevo.

Atlético de Madrid has just completed the signing of Spanish international René Lorunt, for a value of €30 million. However, the Rojiblancos do not intend to stop there. According to Romano, in midfield, Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is Diego Simeone’s top choice, especially considering players like Goretzka are more inclined to stay. Currently, Atlético and Chelsea are in direct talks, with a price range of €35-40 million, the exact figure depending on variable clauses. The two teams are getting closer to an agreement.

Spanish outlet Relevo also confirms this, noting that Atlético’s interest in Gallagher has been ongoing for several weeks, and now the transfer operation is at its most critical stage before a potential agreement. The media adds that while Gallagher has other suitors, one issue is that Chelsea is reluctant to sell the player, who is under contract until 2025, to other Premier League clubs—especially those that could be seen as rivals to Chelsea. This makes Atlético very optimistic about securing the deal.

Last season, Gallagher made 37 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, scoring seven goals. The Spanish press points out that if Atlético completes the signing of Lorunt and then Gallagher, their next move would be to try to sign a forward.
