Ecuador Professional League Referees' Unpaid Salaries Repaid, Matches to Resume TomorrowAccording to local Ecuadorian media expreso, the unpaid salaries of referees in the Ecuador professional league have been repaid, and matches for the second stage will officially resume from tomorrow.

The media outlet reported that after intense negotiations, the organizers of the Ecuadorian league and the referees have reached an agreement. Due to the sponsor settling the outstanding payments, the second stage of matches will officially restart. Additionally, the referees for the second stage of the league have already been appointed.

In a video, Football Association President Llor announced this news. He also revealed that following discussions with Muñoz, all of the referees’ debts have been repaid. They will receive $1.3 million, and later they will still discuss potential salary reductions.

It is known that since 2018, the Ecuadorian Football Association has been in arrears with salaries, including over 500 referees across various levels of the Ecuadorian leagues who were not receiving their wages. Some referees had to find other jobs to support their families. Recently, driven to desperation, the referees organized a large-scale strike. Following this, the president of the Football Association stated that he did not understand the referees’ actions, stating that the association had funds but wanted to sit down and talk with everyone.
