MD: Laporta Confirms Failed Investment of €40M for Barça; Urgently Needs to Raise Funds to Resolve Crisis

Catalan media outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that due to a failed €40 million investment that was expected, FC Barcelona is facing financial difficulties and urgently needs to find new investors as soon as possible in order not to affect its operations in the transfer market.

Several media outlets had previously confirmed that the planned transaction with Libreoro Fund, which was supposed to pay €40 million to acquire a 10% stake in “Barça Vision,” has run into trouble, as the fund did not make the payment to Barcelona. This has caused significant difficulties for Barcelona, particularly affecting the club’s operations in the transfer market.

Now, FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta has confirmed that this news is true, but he also stated that Barcelona has ways to cope: “We will soon announce economic news related to us. What I can say is that we have a series of investors whose help will allow us to normalize our financial situation.”

Mundo Deportivo understands from sources within the club that Barcelona plans to complete the inflow of €40 million this week to cover last season’s losses. However, in addition to this, at least another €60 million needs to be raised to cover the budget for team building and financial audits for the 2024-25 season.

Currently, Barcelona has already “secured” approximately €30 million, and there are several investors interested in the remaining €30 million. For example, music streaming company Spotify, among others, is potentially interested. The issue is that this company is publicly traded, and decision-making processes can take time, and it may not be possible to finalize matters by Barcelona’s deadline (August 15). Nonetheless, Barcelona is not overly concerned because there are other options available. The biggest impact on the team right now is that its signing operations will be affected until the difficulties are resolved.
