South Sudan Announces Olympic Squad: Former Laker & Three CBA Imports Lead the WayOn July 25, South Sudan’s men’s basketball team announced its 12-man roster for the Paris Olympics. Leading the squad is former Los Angeles Lakers player Gabriel. Included in the lineup are three foreign players who previously played in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). The Olympic squad is headlined by former Lakers player Gabriel and includes three imports from the last CBA season: Karik Jones of Zhejiang Chouzhou, Shaiyok of Shandong, and Omod of Ningbo. All three delivered impressive performances in the warm-up game against the U.S. At the Paris Olympics, South Sudan will compete in a group alongside the United States, Serbia, and Puerto Rico. South Sudan’s 12-man Olympic roster: Kuany, Karik Jones, Omod, Maruach, Kuol, Gabriel, JT Thor, Shaiyok, Makoi, Majok Deng, York, Dak.
