According to ESPN and multiple other reports, Kazuhiro Mizuhara, the personal interpreter for MLB star Shohei Ohtani, who was formally charged with illegal investments, is set to plead guilty.
As reported, Mizuhara began making unauthorized investments in September 2021, shortly after becoming Ohtani’s interpreter. Over the course of nearly two and a half years, up until January 2024, he made as many as 19,000 illegal investments, totaling $17 million, which he divided between two accounts belonging to Ohtani.
After the incident came to light in March this year, Mizuhara admitted to misusing Ohtani’s funds and submitting false tax returns. Following his formal indictment at the end of June, he plans to officially plead guilty on the 9th of this month.
The media also noted that Ohtani himself was unaware of these actions, and he has no connection to Mizuhara’s case involving illegal investments.
