At 2:30 AM on August 2, the women’s 200m butterfly final at the Paris Olympics took place, with Chinese athlete Zhang Yufei participating.
In the end, Zhang Yufei secured third place with a time of 2:05.09, earning China a bronze medal.
In an emotional post-race interview, Zhang Yufei said, “I just got over a fever yesterday, and today, right on the first day of my period, I felt numb on my whole right side. I didn’t expect to swim so fast; my warm-up wasn’t like it usually is. To put it plainly, ‘I will live and die in the pool!’”
“I didn’t think I could swim that fast because I was feeling numb even before getting into the water. My warm-up wasn’t like it normally is—I only swam 1,000 meters before getting out of the pool.”
