On August 5, Liverpool manager Slot gave an interview discussing the current state of the Reds. Slot stated that Liverpool needs to be cautious with its signings and also mentioned that the squad depth is still lacking.
Slot indicated that he is more focused on the team’s performance during training: “I am focused on this preseason in the United States, including how the team is performing, what shortcomings remain, and where we are doing well. We have a high threshold for bringing in new players because we already have many outstanding players in the squad. You have to understand that finding the right player is not easy, and we need to maintain patience.”
Slot continued: “I am fully committed to the team and working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. As a big club like Liverpool, we always need to proceed with caution and consider what kind of players we need to strengthen the team. We are continuously evaluating our squad, looking at what we have now and what we can achieve next.”
Slot noted that Liverpool’s squad is somewhat thin: “I believe our competitors have greater squad depth. If you include the young players who cannot yet play in the first team, we do have quite a few, but they will return to their respective youth teams after this. For most positions, we have two players, which is very normal considering we compete in the Premier League and the Champions League. Other major clubs often have more than two players for each position.”
