Lili Wei stated that China has a long way to go in gaining a stronger voice in sports and hopes for more people to get involved, participate in rule-making, and play a role in sports diplomacy. Gaining a stronger voice in sports is just as important as winning medals in competitions. “I won many gold medals during my career, but I never won an Olympic gold medal. Since I became an IOC member in 2012, I felt like I had won an Olympic medal in a different sense.”
