On August 4, former Japan Football Association (JFA) president Saburo Kawabuchi updated his social media, responding to the offside call made on Daiki Hokazono’s goal in the quarterfinal match against Spain. He believes that FIFA referees should receive re-education on refereeing knowledge.
He said, “I hope FIFA referees will receive re-education. Whether a goal is valid can be automatically determined by reviewing VAR based on video evidence, with the final decision resting with the referee. An offside involving a toe is a physical issue, but I hope it can be recognized as part of the flow of football.”
Although he did not specify which game, during the men’s football quarterfinal at the Paris Olympics, Japanese forward Daiki Hokazono scored in the 40th minute of the first half in the match against Spain, but the goal was ruled invalid by VAR.
