According to Xinhua News, “We must bring out the ‘might of the five-star red flag’!” At the Paris Olympic archery venue, a Korean man in Chinese team attire caught the attention of reporters. He is Kwon Yong-hak, the Korean coach of China’s women’s archery team.

Archery is a strong suit for Korea, and the cheers from Korean spectators at the venue have been deafening. Due to the limited number of Chinese spectators, there has not been much cheering for the Chinese team. However, there is always one voice that cheers for the Chinese team within the venue.

“With fewer Chinese spectators in the stands, I wanted to give some encouragement to my athletes. Even during the men’s team matches, I shouted support from the stands,” said this rotund Korean coach, speaking fluent Chinese.

During his athletic career, Kwon Yong-hak won multiple national championships in Korea. After retiring, he transitioned into coaching. “Every summer back then, I would go to Jiangsu to guide the local athletes. The team recognized my methods because the athletes’ performances improved,” Kwon Yong-hak said. However, he did not expect his coaching experience in China to last as long as it has.

Having spent many years in China, Kwon Yong-hak now considers China his second home. “In fact, if I were coaching in Korea, it would be impossible for me to lead a team to the Olympics. I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I hope that someday, the Chinese team can open the door to victory against the Korean team at the Olympic Games,” Kwon Yong-hak said.
