Former Argentine football legend Mario Kempes insists that Inter Milan captain Lautaro is at the same level as Mbappé and Haaland.
Kempes said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, “As someone who was born to score goals, I watch football in a way that ‘measures’ forwards. Lautaro truly has the DNA for scoring goals; he feels it deep within him, a trait only true center-forwards possess. Therefore, if he hasn’t scored yet in the new Serie A season, we shouldn’t worry; it’s just a matter of time, and he has shown that he knows how to persevere when the ball doesn’t go in. This happens to everyone. When the goals start coming, perhaps they won’t stop after that. We just need to understand this moment; Lautaro needs time to regain his form because he did a lot during the summer.”
When asked if Lautaro is on the same level as Mbappé and Haaland, Kempes responded, “Of course, he’s at that level. Forwards like him are rare; he’s among the best players. And it’s great that he chose to stay closely connected to the team; you can see that Inter Milan is like home to him. Being in a place where one feels happy has a huge impact on everything. You don’t choose your team solely for money; at some point, the heart always plays the leading role in making decisions. Then, when he’s over 30 and has won other titles as captain, maybe Lautaro will be able to accumulate experience elsewhere. But why change now?”
