In the third round of Serie A matches between AC Milan and Lazio, two AC Milan stars, Leao and Theo, seemingly refused to follow instructions from their head coach, Paulo Fonseca, which sparked controversy. Former Serie A star, Paolo Di Canio, criticized the two players, believing that in their day, these players would have been beaten, and Leao responded by posting an old controversial photo of Di Canio.
Di Canio criticized these two players, considering them irresponsible, “In my day, teammates would pin them against the wall and give them a beating. It’s a disgrace.”
As a response, Leao posted a photo of Paolo Di Canio on social media, where Di Canio is seen extending his right arm, making a fascist salute towards Lazio’s far-right fans. This move by Leao was seen as a sarcastic counter to Di Canio’s comments.
Di Canio has previously stated that making such a gesture was one of his greatest regrets in his career, something he should never have done.
