Lescott: Grealish to Rebound This Season, Missed Euro 2024 Squad Gives Him Motivation

Former Manchester City star and current England U21 assistant coach, Joleon Lescott, has stated that Jack Grealish can use his omission from the Euro 2024 squad as motivation to rediscover his best form.

In 2021, Grealish transferred to Manchester City from Aston Villa for a fee of £100 million. However, during the latter half of the 2023-24 season, he faced difficulties. Although he was included in the initial squad for the Euros, he was ultimately left out of the final team selection.

Following such a setback, Grealish continued individual training during his summer break and returned early to the team, joining Guardiola’s pre-season preparations, demonstrating great determination.

Lescott, who was once Grealish’s teammate at Aston Villa, commented in an interview with The Mirror: “What Jack (Grealish) is doing doesn’t surprise me. He’s always been seen as a talent and has contributed to every team he’s played for. Missing out on the Euros is a huge disappointment for him, but he is determined not to let this happen again, not just in major tournaments, but in any team. I’ve been in a similar situation myself – I missed the 2010 World Cup and was determined not to let it happen again, and then I became one of the starters in the Euro lineup. So, I believe if Jack uses this as motivation, we will see the best of him.”

Since joining Manchester City, Grealish has made 125 appearances across all competitions for the team, scoring 14 goals and providing 18 assists.

During his time at Manchester City from 2009 to 2014, Lescott played a pivotal role in securing the Premier League titles in 2012 and 2014. Additionally, he helped Manchester United win the FA Cup in 2011 and the League Cup in 2014. As an England international, he earned 26 caps for the Three Lions. After retiring in 2017, Lescott began coaching courses and is now the assistant coach of the England U21 national team.
