On August 20, after five matchdays of competition, all ten games of the first round of the 2024/25 La Liga season have concluded, and Leisu Sports has provided live video broadcasts for all matches. Now, let’s review this round of La Liga matches and relive the memorable moments from the first round.
Six Draws Out of Ten Matches – The Season Starts with Harmony
After five matchdays, six out of ten matches in the opening round ended in draws, indicating a harmonious start to the season. The six draws were: Athletic Bilbao 1-1 Getafe, Real Betis 1-1 Girona, Las Palmas 2-2 Sevilla, Osasuna 1-1 Leganes, Mallorca 1-1 Real Madrid, Villarreal 2-2 Atletico Madrid. Notably, both matches on the first matchday ended in draws, setting the tone for the rest of the round.
26 Goals Scored in the First Round – Only Espanyol Fails to Break the Drought
In the first round of La Liga, a total of 26 goals were scored. The two matches with the most goals were: Las Palmas 2-2 Sevilla and Villarreal 2-2 Atletico Madrid, each delivering four goals in a single match.
Overall, the average number of goals per game in the first round was 2.6. Nineteen out of twenty La Liga teams managed to score, with only Espanyol failing to break their goal drought. In a direct encounter between two promoted teams, Espanyol lost 0-1 away to Valladolid, suffering a defeat in their first match back in La Liga.
Cold Start for the Madrid Giants – Lewandowski’s Double Helps Barcelona Secure Their First Win
In the much-anticipated matches, Real Madrid drew 1-1 away against Mallorca, failing to secure a winning start to the season. Mbappe, who was highly anticipated, did not continue his impressive performance from the UEFA Super Cup in his La Liga debut. He had four shots and three successful dribbles but, despite his full commitment, he did not deliver the kind of match fans were hoping to see.
Additionally, Atletico Madrid drew 2-2 away against Villarreal. As another strong team from Madrid, Atletico also failed to secure their first victory. All four goals in the match came in the first half. For Atletico, the combination of Griezmann and Llorente was impressive, but Captain Koke’s own goal once again put Simeone’s team in a difficult position, even though Sololot helped Atletico equalize, they did not get a third goal in the second half.
Compared to the cold start of the Madrid giants, Barcelona secured a 2-1 away win over Valencia with Lewandowski scoring twice, welcoming their first victory of the season. Young player Yamal also contributed the first assist of the season, continuing his hot form from the European Championship. Notably, Lewandowski is the only player to score twice in this round and currently leads the scoring chart with two goals.
Starting from August 24, La Liga will enter its second round. After the “harmony” of the first round, will La Liga present a spectacular scene of “the wind rises and the clouds soar”? Leisu Sports will follow along with all football fans.
