Sport: Chiesa Willing to Take a Significant Pay Cut to Join Barcelona for LaLiga Registration

Catalan media outlet Sport reports that Barcelona is still pushing to sign Federico Chiesa, and the Italian international is willing to significantly reduce his salary in order to complete his registration in LaLiga.

Chiesa’s current annual salary at Juventus is €6 million after tax, over €11 million before tax. For Barcelona to sign him under similar conditions would make an already difficult registration issue even more challenging. To increase the chances of a successful transfer, Chiesa is willing to accept a considerable pay cut. According to current reports from Spanish and Italian media, the player is willing to accept a 2+2 contract from Barcelona with an after-tax annual salary of €4.5 million. This means that if he transfers, his salary will be reduced to three-quarters of its original amount.

This is because Chiesa prioritizes sporting ambitions over financial goals. He has evaluated all the teams currently interested in him, and if it were about money, he should choose Manchester United or Chelsea, who can offer higher salaries. However, the player believes that Barcelona’s style of play suits him better.

In addition, Inter Milan is also interested in Chiesa and has made contact with the player’s team. However, two issues have complicated the deal; firstly, Inter needs to sell Arnautovic and Correa to complete the transaction this summer, which is difficult. Secondly, Juventus is not willing to sell the player to a direct competitor. The more likely scenario for Chiesa joining Inter would be a free transfer after the final year of his contract, but this is clearly not the best solution for the player.

In summary, according to Sport, one of the obstacles to completing the Chiesa deal (reaching an agreement with the player) has been cleared. The transfer fee issue is also not significant; Barcelona has offered €10 million, while Juventus wants €15 million, and both sides are optimistic about reaching an agreement. The biggest problem now is that Barcelona needs to raise the necessary financial space through sales to complete the transaction, which will require more effort from Barcelona’s managers before the transfer window closes.
