On August 27, multiple South American media outlets cited a statement from the Albert Einstein Hospital. The health condition of Uruguayan Nacional player Izquierdo, who previously experienced arrhythmia during a match, has deteriorated and is critical.
During the Libertadores Cup match on August 23, where Uruguayan Nacional lost 0-2 to São Paulo, Izquierdo collapsed without contact and was immediately hospitalized for treatment.
After the game, Uruguayan Nacional once stated in an official announcement that the player’s condition was stable, and the reason for his fainting was due to arrhythmia.
However, the statement released by Einstein Hospital today reads: “Since the evening of August 22, Izquierdo has been in the intensive care unit, unable to breathe on his own, with severe neurological status.”
