On August 23, according to The Sun, former Premier League star and pundit Jenas was fired by the BBC for sending harassing text messages to a female employee.
According to The Sun, after a female employee made accusations against Jenas during a show, he was subsequently fired by the BBC. The female employee reported receiving harassing texts from Jenas. Previously, a large mural featuring Jenas alongside Lineker, Shearer, and Scott hanging at the BBC headquarters has also been removed.
Jenas responded to the incident: “I can’t talk about this matter right now, but I am certainly unhappy with it. I will be discussing this issue with my lawyer next.”
An insider stated: “This is absolutely a nightmare for the BBC. A complaint was lodged regarding Jenas’ behavior, and following a routine investigation, the BBC decided to take Jenas off air and terminate his contract.”
Jenas had been considered a potential successor to Lineker on MOTD (a BBC football program). He covered the European Championship this summer and was a commentator for the semi-final match between Spain and France.
According to official statistics, Jenas’ salary at the BBC was between £190,000 and £195,000.
