Koeman: The Football Association is Satisfied with the Netherlands’ Performance at the Euros, National Team Door is Thoroughly Closed for Bergwijn

September 3rd, the Dutch national team announced a new squad list, and head coach Koeman held a press conference before the matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Germany.

Regarding reflections after elimination from the Euros

After being eliminated, my mind went blank, and I sat in my room for several days. But I believe the Netherlands is making progress, and our experience was positive. If you don’t have a club, you don’t get to play football, and thus you can’t serve your country. He is now 30, and I hope he finds a new club and integrates. Then, he definitely has a future with the national team.

If anyone tries their utmost to stay fit, it’s Weghorst. But he has missed out on playing for 90 minutes.

Regarding De Jong

I know he is improving, but he is not fully recovered. His ankle has been injured three times, and he needs more time to recover.

Regarding Bergwijn joining a Saudi Arabian team

Bergwijn, at 26, chose to join a Saudi Arabian team, which clearly shows a lack of ambition. His connection with the Dutch national team ends here.

Regarding Vermaelen

He had a tough time at the Euros. Ultimately, he didn’t take the step he wanted.

Regarding Gravenberch

He performed excellently in the match against Manchester United on Sunday. This might also be due to the confidence he gained. We’ve always seen great potential in him. He still needs to improve his focus, and his growth will also be beneficial for the Dutch team.
