In recent years, Haidheim has gradually climbed from the third division, earning a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifiers due to their impressive performance last season. This is also the team’s first foray into European competition. However, the much-anticipated European debut was marred by broadcasting mishaps.
During the Europa Conference League qualifier against Olimpija Ljubljana, the broadcast provider performed rather amateurishly. There were issues with the stadium sound system; for 18 minutes after kick-off, fans could only hear commentator Bucher’s voice, with the picture going black multiple times and no live sounds audible. Afterward, there were repeated failures of both audio and video, with a period in the second half where both completely disappeared, leading to a bumpy finish to the live broadcast.
Commentator Bucher had to read real-time text updates sent by his colleague Bolembach, who was on-site several times. Haidheim fans were also dissatisfied with the amateurism displayed by the Swedish broadcaster, whose mistakes tarnished the team’s historic European debut, making it less than perfect.
