However, he was broken again in the 11th game and could not prevent Van de Zandschulp from winning the set on serve in the 12th game.

In the third set, both Alcaraz and Van de Zandschulp held their first two service games to reach a 2-2 tie. In the 5th game, Alcaraz suffered a break due to consecutive unforced errors, but he immediately broke back in the 6th game to level at 3-3. In the 7th game, Alcaraz dominated, holding serve with four straight points. However, Van de Zandschulp then won the subsequent game.

Ultimately, Alcaraz lost to Van de Zandschulp with scores of 1-6, 5-7, 4-6, exiting in the second round and causing the biggest upset so far in the US Open.
