On August 30, in the second round of the US Open men’s singles, the tournament’s third seed Alcaraz faced off against Dutch player Van de Zandschulp.

In the 5th game, Alcaraz suffered a break due to consecutive unforced errors, but he immediately broke back in the 6th game to level at 3-3. In the 7th game, Alcaraz dominated, holding serve with four straight points. However, Van de Zandschulp then won the subsequent game.
Ultimately, Alcaraz lost to Van de Zandschulp with scores of 1-6, 5-7, 4-6, exiting in the second round and causing the biggest upset so far in the US Open.
