Yosuke Kashiwagi, former Japanese international, officially announced his retirement at the end of last season. He has since taken on a new career as an oarsman in Gifu Prefecture.
Recently, in an interview with local media, Yosuke Kashiwagi shared his thoughts. He said, “Rowing means that your passengers entrust their lives to you, and in this situation, serving them well is challenging. It’s important to have a broad vision to discern the flow of the river and the movement of large rocks, just like playing football.
About two years ago, an acquaintance invited me to Gifu for the first time to watch the local fishermen catch fish, and I was captivated by their skills, the scenery, and the history. On the other hand, I learned about the shortage of local oarsmen. So after retiring, I formally decided to become an oarsman.”
The 36-year-old Kashiwagi spent a total of 11 seasons with Urawa Reds during his career. However, in 2021, he was expelled from the team for violating internal regulations and subsequently joined FC Gifu, where he spent the final three seasons of his career. He is very grateful to FC Gifu for allowing him to continue his football career and thus decided to give back to the local fans in this way.
